How to Prepare for Your Engagement Session

Engagement sessions can be a lot of fun! They are a great way for you as a couple to get used to being in front of the camera, and for me as the photographer to get to know you more as a couple and how to photograph you two together.

Here are a couple points to remember, and to make the session the best that it can be.

1. Have fun! Don't stress!

The first 20 minutes are going to feel super weird and awkward, unless you're someone who is photographed on a regular basis. Everyone feels this way, so it's not something you're doing wrong. This time is a warm up for both you and myself, we're getting into the grove of things, and before you know it you'll feel like it's completely normal to have someone following you around with a camera.

My goal is to grab as many candid shots of you as possible, so just be yourselves, and relax. Ignore me as much as you can, and enjoy this together. I will give you ideas along the way of stuff to try, and poses to do.

2. Clothing

Make sure when you are picking out your outfits, you're picking clothing that is comfortable and flattering. Your clothes don't necessarily need to match, but make sure they compliment each other enough that style and colours will look good together.

It's also good to keep in mind the time of year and location of your session. During the winter, having brighter and bolder colours will really help you to pop off the image. In the fall and spring, colours are already pretty prominent, so it's usually a good idea to tone things down a little. We can always chat more closer to your session date.

If there are any specific spots you would like to incorporate into your shoot. It can be the location of your first date, the spot you got engaged, or a spot that you like to frequent on dates and outings. I have a few locations that I really like to go to, but I'm always open to going somewhere new and meaningful!

4. Weather

Don't worry about the weather. Unless it's minus freezing out, we will get out there rain or shine! If we have to wait out a rainstorm, we will wait, as sometimes the best photos come during or right after the rain. If it is just not clearing, we can always reschedule to another date.
